My 1974 BMW 2002

From shell to road, the rebuilding of a classic automobile my way.

February 2004

I'm changing things a little bit on the page. In the past I took a lot of pictures but didn't explain a lot. I decided it might be better as I get closer to drivability that I explain things a little better. I went skiing for the first time in February so that took a little bit of my time.

Interior Shot

This is the interior so far, I have more parts off my parts car such as the door handles and arm rests. I also have one good door panel for the passenger side, but the driver side one needs to be replaced.

Frame Rail

The floor pan rusted through to the frame rail in this spot. Luckily the frame rail isn't bent and the floor board should be easy to fix. I'll be fixing this in March.

Drive shaft

Here is the drive shaft apart, what a headache. I probably heated and cooled the 24mm nut on this thing for half an hour before it finally broke free. Once it did though it came apart easily.

New Center Bearing

Don't force the new bearing all the way on. As you tighten the bolt it will get the bearing into the right place. I tightened the bolt completely once I got the drive shaft back in place and the car in gear.

Guibo

I still have to bolt it together completely, but it was good enough to get the center bearing back on.
