My 1974 BMW 2002

From shell to road, the rebuilding of a classic automobile my way.

July and August 2005

Not a lot happened in July. I had school to deal with and a trip to Guatemala to visit Makenzie. I did work some of the rear suspension bushings but they were a lot of trouble without the right tools.

Here is Makenzie

She is 8 weeks old, we are adopting her and we expect to be bringing her home sometime in October or November.

While in Guatemala I saw this, a 1-Series. It pulled up just as we were sitting down to eat at the Italian restaurant. Picture didn't turn out to good, but the car looks a lot better in person than in the photos.

Here is the ultimate cheap bushing removal tool. It is made of a 12" 3/8-16 threaded rod, 3 3/8" nuts, a 5/8" or so washer (big one), a 3/8" flat washer and a 3/8" lock washer. It also has the 1.5" PVC cut to just a little longer than the bushing. I had it laying around from before. Total cost about $3.

Here you can see the bushing that I removed using the tool. This after messing with that one for a long time trying other methods.

Here is the place the bushing was, ready for the urethane one.

Here is the urethane bushing and the way I believe it is supposed to go in. I should be able to use the tool to put it in also.

And the other side.

This is the e-brake line. The part that you see here is actually part of the cable that rusted in there. I was able to get the cable out, but this part won't come out. I will probably have to drill it to remove it.
